Nyerere National Park Previously known as Selous game reserve is the largest protected game reserve in Tanzania on the African continent and one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Its terrain is spread over an area of 54600 square kilometers which includes dense forests, lust green plains, mountains, and open woodlands. The Park is located in southern Tanzania far away from crowded northern Tanzania. This Park gives tourists an opportunity to experience the wilderness and be very close to nature. The Park gained worldwide tourist attraction when it was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1982. This recognition was due to its rich biodiversity and uninterrupted nature. The attributes of this national park include lakes, rivers, birds, and animals which are the inhabitants and custodians of the park. This Park offers tourists unique experiences such as Walking Safaris, bird-watching tours, boat safaris, camping drives a hot-air balloon safari. Bird-watching tours are worthwhile as this is home to 400 species of birds.
